The most effective treatment for gastric cancer is surgery. There are now heterogeneous clinical outcomes for patients in the same stage of the disease. The main reason for this is the fact that differences in types of gastric cancer occur not only at the histological level, but also at the molecular level. Finding the universal biomarkers that can provide information about patient prognosis is a subject of interest to scientists around the world. MMP-7 is the smallest molecule in the family of matrix metalloproteinases that contributes significantly to oncogenesis by affecting apoptosis and degradation of the extracellular matrix. MMP-7 hyperexpression is associated with aggressive tumor phenotype and worsens prognosis in patients with gastric cancer. Therefore, MMP-7 can be a promising biomarker in the treatment of gastric cancer.</p> <p><bold><italic>AIM:</italic></bold> To identify possible correlations between the expression of MMP-7 in patients with gastric cancer and their prognosis.</p> <p><bold><italic>MATERIALS AND METHODS:</italic></bold><bold> </bold>The study included samples of 80 patients diagnosed with diffuse gastric cancer, who were selected based on our inclusion and exclusion criteria. 30 sectional stomach samples were taken as a comparison group. Of the 80 patients included in the study, gastrectomy was performed in 55% cases (44 people) and gastric resection was performed in 45% cases (36 people).</p> <p><bold><italic>RESULTS:</italic></bold><bold> </bold>In our work, the expression level of MMP-7 0.8±0.07 was indicated as high, and the expression rate of 0.40±0.067 as low. During the study, we assessed the link between the level of MMP-7 expression and the clinical characteristics of the tumor. We evaluated the following indicators: the disease stage, the presence of lesions of lymph nodes, the size of the tumor. Patients with increased MMP-7 expression in tumor tissue have a better prognosis than patients with low MMP-7 expression.</p> <p><bold><italic>CONCLUSION: </italic></bold>The results of our study showed high MMP-7 expression in tumor tissue, which allowed us to establish a correlation between MMP-7 expression and adverse clinical outcomes. The data obtained may indicate the possible use of MMP-7 as a biomarker for gastric cancer.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold>Обоснование.</bold> По данным статистики, рак желудка занимает лидирующую позицию среди всех онкопатологий желудочно-кишечного тракта. Самое эффективное лечение рака желудка — хирургическое вмешательство. Сейчас наблюдается гетерогенность клинических исходов для пациентов с одной и той же стадией болезни. Основные причины — это различия в подтипах рака желудка не только на гистологическом, но и на молекулярном уровне. Поиск универсальных биомаркёров, которые смогут дать информацию о прогнозе для пациентов, является предметом интереса учёных по всему миру. MMP-7 — наименьшая молекула из семейства матриксных металлопротеиназ, которая вносит существенный вклад в онкогенез путём воздействия на апоптоз и деградацию внеклеточного матрикса. Гиперэкспрессия MMP-7 связана с агрессивным фенотипом опухоли и ухудшает прогноз у пациентов с раком желудка. Именно поэтому MMP-7 может быть перспективным биомаркёром в лечении рака желудка.</p> <p><bold>Цель</bold> —<bold> </bold>выявить возможную корреляцию между наличием экспрессии MMP-7 у больных раком желудка и их прогнозом.</p> <p><bold>Материалы и методы.</bold> В исследование были включены образцы 80 пациентов с диагнозом «диффузный рак желудка», которые подверглись отбору на основе разработанных нами критериев включения и исключения. В качестве группы сравнения были взяты 30 секционных образцов желудков. Из 80 пациентов, включённых в исследование, гастрэктомия была выполнена у 55% (44 человека), а резекция желудка — у 45% (36 человек).</p> <p><bold>Результаты.</bold> В нашей работе высоким уровнем экспрессии MMP-7 считался 0,8±0,07, а низким — 0,40±0,067. В ходе исследования мы оценивали взаимосвязь уровня экспрессии MMP-7 с клиническими характеристиками опухоли. Мы оценивали следующие показатели: стадия заболевания, наличие поражения лимфатических узлов и размер опухоли. Пациенты с повышенной экспрессией MMP-7 в опухолевой ткани по сравнению с неопухолевой тканью имеют тенденцию к лучшему прогнозу, чем пациенты с низкой экспрессией MMP-7 в клетках опухоли.</p> <p><bold>Заключение. </bold>Результаты нашего исследования показали высокую экспрессию MMP-7 в опухолевых тканях при раке желудка, что позволило нам установить корреляцию между экспрессией MMP-7 и неблагоприятным клиническим исходом.
