Abstract

This paper discusses two cases of suppletive allomorphy in Anchiq Karata and Chamalal languages. We analyze two diachronic scenarios that explain the development of suppletive allomorphy in perfective converb morphology. We introduce the concept of systemic effects, which are structural and substantive factors that impact the grammaticalization process. The case studies demonstrate that suppletive allomorphy arises due to systemic effects during the uneven grammaticalization process.
